The Estonian team sent 17 competitors and 26 speed car models to compete in six competition classes at the 73rd European Speed Car Model Championship in Pécs, Hungary. As many as five Estonian athletes made it to the podium in the high-level competitions.
The first one, 1.5 cm3 In the motorised competition category, Rain Teder achieved great success by taking the EC title ahead of Sweden who took silver and Switzerland who took bronze. Teder defended last year’s title with an impressive 263.474 km/h.
For Teder, this was the fifth consecutive EC title, and the team’s hard-core asset Lembit Vaher was able to take the fourth place.
The second one, 2.5 cm3 In the competition category, Priit Teder, a classic of Estonian speedster style, managed to reach the third podium. The medal price was 270.411 km/h. The gold and silver medals were won by the German and Hungarian players respectively. Andre Luhmann won the fourth place and still made a good contribution to the national cup.
3.5 cm3 In the third engine competition category, the Estonians did not interfere with the high-level competition, but in the restricted 3b category, Matthias Mannikov won the silver medal. In high-speed car modeling, the difference between winning and losing can be a matter of luck. This time, the Ukrainian was lucky, and he reached a gold medal top speed of 254.555 km/h. Mannikov lost to the champion with a top speed of 254.357 km/h, a difference of less than 0.2 km/h.
4. 5.0 cm3 In the competition category, Estonia won a double title – Tiit Luman (309.818 km/h) won the gold medal, Arco Aria (304.628 km/h) won the silver medal, and the Swiss representative won the bronze medal.
Fifth, fastest 10.0 cm3 Estonia remains medal-less in the competition category. Current world record holder Ando Rohtmets and last year’s EC gold medalist Tõnu Sepp both started well but did not fare well this time. It is clear that the disappointment will motivate the search for sweet revenge and a high position at next year’s Lithuanian Championships.
All in all, Estonia won two gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal in the EEC. In addition to this, it also won the Nations Cup and took home the victory in the highest speed competition – the Speed Cup.
On August 17, you will have the opportunity to learn more about speed car modeling and experience the top speeds of racing machines at the Nõmme Hobby School track, where the second stage of the Estonian Speed Model Championship will be held.
