The Council of Ministers met on Wednesday to review the following documents.
State supports SARL Viper Va’a in promoting Polynesian canoes in European market
SARL Viper Va’a is a company based in Raiatea that specializes in the production of sporting goods, especially Polynesian canoes and fishing accessories. WaaThe company has 15 permanent employees and has developed significantly, with 60% of its turnover coming from exports. Its local and international recognition, as well as its status as a winner of the National Recovery Program, attest to its seriousness and commitment to the development of its activities.
SARL Viper Va’a asks the State to support its promotional activities in order to be able to participate in two major events in France: the Mondial du Vent, held in Leucate from 7 to 14 April, and the Vendée Va’a Les Sables d’Olonne, held in Leucate from 8 to 11 May 2024. These events bring significant visibility to the company that exhibits and markets Polynesian canoes.
The expected impact of this initiative goes beyond the simple framework of the company. In fact, the success of the expansion into the European market could lead to a significant increase in export turnover, the maintenance of existing jobs, or even additional recruitment. In addition, the project indirectly supports the Raiatea wood industry and various local partner companies, thus contributing to the entire Polynesian economy.
It is worth noting that this support is part of a broader strategy to encourage Polynesian industry, especially in Reviewand retain local expertise in the face of the trend of production shifting to Asia.
In view of the alignment of this project with the priority economic development axes of French Polynesia and its potential positive impact on the local economy, the Minister of Economy, Budget and Finance, responsible for Energy, supported the Council of Ministers in allocating a subsidy of 1,200,000 francs for the SARL Viper Va’a, in order to promote the export of traditional sailing vessels to the European market.
