Government has announced that security agencies have made significant progress in the hunt for the Petawuk Central MP, Emmanuel Banda, who recently escaped from legal custody.
Chief government spokesman Cornelius Mweetwa told a news conference that investigations had determined that Banda did not flee on his own but had received outside assistance. Mweetwa clarified that although Banda’s wife was present at the time of the escape, she was not arrested but was questioned.
“This discovery suggests that Mr Banda did not act alone in his escape but was assisted by others,” Mwitwa told reporters. He assured the public that investigative agencies were working hard to find Banda and bring him to justice.
Meanwhile, Economic Front Party Chairman Winter Kabimba said Banda’s escape was not an isolated incident but part of a larger criminal group that aims to destabilize the country. Kabimba urged investigators to uncover the motives behind the alleged funding of Banda, warning that the group’s interests were not in the best interest of Zambia.
Kabimba stressed at a press conference that Banda should not receive sympathy for his alleged criminal acts, asserting that offenders must face arrest and prosecution regardless of their social status. He criticised the opposition from various sectors of society to prosecute MP Petawuk, who was reportedly convicted of several criminal offences during the previous Patriotic Front government.
The search for Emmanuel Banda continues and the Government and security agencies are determined to ensure that he is brought to justice.
