A 34-year-old entrepreneur has dedicated his life to revitalizing communities and providing much-needed support to those in need.

From a young age, Lancia Cooper-Gasse has had a passion for helping others. “As I grew older, that desire grew stronger and I became more focused on helping my community,” she shared.

Now, as her own boss, she balances her responsibilities as a wife, mother, businesswoman and community leader and uses those roles to contribute.

Ensuring that the Samstan community had access to prepaid water services was one of her noteworthy achievements. “In 2021, I stepped in to help them fight for prepaid water, and in July 2023, we finally received approval from the City of Windhoek, thanks to the support of then acting CEO Faniel Maanda,” she said.

She further narrated how she has been working tirelessly since 2022 to support the vulnerable in informal settlements in Winte and Keokapal by providing clothing and food through sponsorship.

She also assisted in the repair of eight public toilets in Gorian Gab, which had been in a damaged state since 2021. “Seeing the gratitude and happiness of the residents made all the hard work worthwhile.”

One community member who wished to remain anonymous said: “We don’t know how to express our gratitude to her because we have nothing to give her, but other Namibians should know that there is a strong woman in our country who uses her kitchen to provide food to those in need”.

expand influence

Gais dreams of expanding her impact. “I put God first and trust His timing. My hope and dream is to get more sponsors to help me further develop my community. I plan to register a community center to address social issues such as homelessness and drug abuse,” she said.

As the eldest of five siblings, her leadership qualities were nurtured at an early age. She says her work has not only had a positive impact on her life, but has also enabled her to connect with a wide range of business people, increasing her skills and influence as a leader.

“I am proud and inspired by the difference I have made in my community,” she said. “I am also grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to help my fellow citizens in my community.”

The entrepreneur said she was particularly touched by the recognition and trust that the residents of Samora Machel Constituency had placed in her. “I am very grateful to the community for recognizing all that I have done. In the same spirit, I would like to humbly thank the Samora Machel community for choosing me as their leader and for trusting me.”
