Some students who were expelled from the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (Kuhes) have written to the Vice-Chancellor, Lazarus Chakwera, seeking his intervention over the treatment they received at the school.

It is said that between 2017 and 2022, about 76 students dropped out of the school due to various academic reasons.

However, 36 of them wrote to the President complaining about the injustice.

Students’ union president Only Mopiha and secretary Mathews Alfred said the sacked students complained that some staff had “systematically expelled students and bullied them”.

Regarding the expulsion, the students claimed that the university had introduced new rules and regulations for the basic examination without informing them, due to which they were expelled.
They believe this is one of the reasons why they failed to achieve their grades.

They also said they had tried to petition parliament on the matter, but to no avail.

The Presidential Press Secretary, Anthony Kasunda, asked for time to understand the matter. The Registrar of Kuhse College, Christopher Namagowa, said they were waiting for the appointment of a new College Council to deal with the matter.
