On August 6, seven new JICA volunteers arrived in Palau. The seven volunteers are: Mr. Tsukhikawa Yusuke in charge of environmental education, Mr. Hasegawa Satoshi in charge of car maintenance from the Koror State Government Department of Public Works, Ms. Ito Risa in charge of primary education from Melekeok Elementary School, Ms. Kurose Chihiro in charge of primary education, Ms. Nagai Shiho in charge of primary education from Ngaremlengui Elementary School, Ms. Ninomaru Miho in charge of primary education from Meyuns Elementary School, and Ms. Yokota Misako in charge of mathematics education from the Ministry of Education’s Curriculum and Instruction Bureau.
They will start their activities at designated offices from 19thday In August, they participated in a two-week post-arrival program that included Palauan language training, various orientation sessions, and courtesy visits with Palauan leadership. Their assignments are for either 1 year and 8 months or 2 years.
The number of JICA volunteers currently stands at 28, the largest number among the 10 Pacific countries where JICA operates. Since 1997, the JICA Volunteer Program has been contributing to the development of Palau’s society and human resources through grassroots activities in various fields such as education, health, social infrastructure, sports, agriculture, fisheries, etc. Currently, the total number of JICA volunteers sent to Palau has reached 321.
