50-year-old man shot in the leg during robbery at New York grocery store

A 50-year-old man was shot in the leg during a broad daylight robbery at a Brooklyn grocery store on Friday, police said.

Police said the gunman entered the Royal Supermarket on Eighth Avenue near 15th Street (just down the block from Prospect Park on the South Slope) around 3 p.m., displayed a gun and demanded cash.

He then opened fire, firing three rounds, one of which struck the victim in the leg, authorities said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition.

It is not clear whether the victim worked at the store.

The gunman, a man in his 40s who was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, military pants and white sneakers, fled on foot south on Eighth Avenue, police said.

No arrests were immediately made.
