Thirty-two civil servants from the Autonomous Bougainville Government today graduated from the SP Brewery Foundation Inc. funded leadership programme, the Certificate in Leadership and Governance.
This is the seventh and final batch of projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) agreement between the government and SP Brewery Ltd.
In 2008, the Government of Papua New Guinea approved a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) policy aimed at providing capacity building, with a particular focus on developing the next generation of public sector leaders between the ages of 25 and 35.
This year, SILAG organized its 7th batch of training in Buka for 32 participants from the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG).
Mr. Michael Barobe, CEO of SILAG, said the theme of the graduation ceremony was “Developing Future Leaders in the Public Sector through Public-Private Partnership
The “partnership” echoes the successful public-private partnership between SP Breweries and the Government of Papua New Guinea through the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance.
“This is the first time a private entity has supported the current government by funding a major project aimed at developing future leaders in the public sector,” Mr Barobe said.
Speaking at the ceremony, SP Brewery Corporate Affairs Manager John Nilkare encouraged the graduates to view their achievements as building blocks for future leadership roles within their respective departments, organisations and communities. He said today’s graduation ceremony represented the emergence of the next generation of leaders in the ABG Public Service.
The Office of the CEO of SILAG expresses its gratitude for all the goodwill gestures and generous support extended to the Government’s premier training provider under this arrangement and encourages other corporate partners to come on board and support capacity building in the public sector by underwriting some courses through SILAG.
