  • 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Congo vs Morocco Match: Congo 0-Morocco 6

CHer compatriots,

It is difficult for me to express the frustration and disappointment I feel after our national team suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat to Morocco in a World Cup qualifier today.

This ignominious result is more than just a sporting failure; it reflects on our managerial failure and lack of long-term footballing vision.

I have an incredible opportunity to book 25 places at a football academy in England, which is a valuable opportunity for our young talents to train for two to five years.

This is a chance to build the future of Congolese football and let our flag shine on the international stage.

However, this opportunity was met with utter disdain.

I admit to you that I felt as if someone was making fun of me.

Despite all efforts, the Sports Minister did not even deign to respond to all the letters we sent to him.

We did everything we could to draw his attention to this golden opportunity.

But in return? Nothing. Not a word, not a sign. Deafening silence.

Lost financial and career opportunities

Furthermore, our young Congolese footballers have the right and every opportunity to be recruited to the England team and become professional players.

Imagine these young talents, trained in world-renowned football academies, integrating into the English league and becoming stars of international football.

Thanks to the economic opportunities provided by professional football, these young people can invest in other areas besides their performances for the Congolese national team.

Football is not only a sporting enterprise, it is also a gateway to investments and projects that benefit the entire country.

Our young people could have brought to Congo the resources and knowledge acquired abroad, thereby contributing to Congo’s economic and social development.

But due to the incompetence and apathy of our leaders, this opportunity was wasted.

The Hypocrisy of Youth Programs

Ironically, the Sports Minister is the head of a project dedicated to youth, entitled “ 2024: The Year of Youth ».

One might think that such a program is designed to seize every opportunity to improve the lot of our young people, especially those as valuable as international sports training. But what do we see? A clear contradiction between words and deeds.

The handling of this situation clearly shows that, despite the statement of the fine, the interests of young people were not truly taken into account.

The consequences of inaction

The game against Morocco cruelly highlighted the flaws in our training system.

Our players lacked technique, strategy and experience, elements that England training could have given them.

Congo’s young talent deserves better. They deserve leaders who will fight for their interests, who will seize opportunities when they present themselves, and who will not remain passive in the face of such important advice.

The ignored promise of the future

The offer to train in England is not just a simple offer; it is a commitment to the future. A commitment to develop our young talent and build a competitive national team that can compete with the best in the world.

If we ignore this opportunity, we miss the chance to change the sporting landscape and provide young people with a pathway to fulfil their ambitions.

Last chance to catch up

But all hope is not lost. There are still places available at this English football academy. We can still catch up.

We must act quickly and decisively.

Our young talent deserves a chance. This is a real opportunity to train, improve and make our country proud.

Call to Action

So, I address you, my dear compatriots, lest we forget this opportunity.

So that we can continue to fight and make our voices heard.

Because the silence of the sports minister should not be the last word on this story.

Our young talent deserves a chance. A real chance. It’s our responsibility to make sure they get it.

Together, let us ensure that this dream does not die in the twists and turns of bureaucracy and apathy.

Together, let us demand this opportunity, for the good of our country and our young people. We must mobilize, challenge our leaders, and demand answers and concrete action. Our young talents cannot wait forever.

You who are full of sporty spirit,

Serge Armand Zanzara, Journalist and writer
