New Zealand’s medal chances on Day 14

11:10pm: Canoe Sprints – Women’s K2 500m Final (Dame Lisa Carrington and Dame Alicia Hoskin) – if qualified

This is Carrington and Hosking’s chance to win two medals in two days. After winning the K4 500m, they will compete in the K2 semi-final at 8:50pm and could reach the final in 80 minutes. They were not the fastest in the heats but have won two gold medals in World Cup events this year, including beating the German duo of Lema Roehlings and Pauline Jagsch by more than a second in the Poznan final.

11:30pm: Canoe Sprint – Men’s K2 500m Final (Kurtis Imrie and Hamish Legarth) – If qualified

In lane 8, they advance to the semifinals, a few seconds behind the top teams. The top four advance to the finals.

4:09am: Cycling – Track – Women’s Madison Final (Bryony Botha, Emily Sherman)

The pair won silver at the Track Cycling Nations Cup in Hong Kong and are second in the Olympic rankings heading into the pairs event. Defending world champions Neah Evans and Elinor Barker of Great Britain are favourites, with Australians Georgina Baker and Alexandra Manly and Tokyo Olympic silver medallists Amalie Dideriksen and Julie Lethto of Denmark also worth keeping an eye on.

5:40am: Athletics – Women’s Shot Put Final (Maddi Wesche)

The New Zealand shot putter had the second-best throw in qualifying, easing into the final with a throw of 19.25m. She was one of only three athletes to clear the qualifying standard and automatically secure a spot in the 12-woman final. Canada’s Sarah Mitton is the in-form favourite, with Tokyo Olympic champion Lijao Gong and silver medallist Ravin Saunders also in the final.

Golf-Lydia Ko Last night, she shot a 5-under-par 67 to move into third place. She was three shots behind Swiss leader Morgan Metro heading into the final third round. Last year’s PGA Championship winner, China’s Yin Ruoning, finished second at 7-under.
