Cole Emhoff introduced his father, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, in a heartwarming video message at the Democratic National Convention.
Cole, 30, who has largely avoided public appearances, described his “goofy dad” as “the glue that holds the family together.”
“In 2014, Kamala became a mom and she took over Sunday dinner and taught Doug how to actually cook. Our blended family is not used to politics or the spotlight, but when Kamala became a senator, we were excited to step up, especially my dad,” he said.
“Kamala became vice president, and I felt like Doug was a little out of place on Capitol Hill. I was like, what is my goofy dad doing here, but he took it.
“I was proud to watch him do this, to stand by her side and be an example of true partnership. Anyone who was close to him knew he was kind, loving and very protective of her.
“This is my father, the first Second Gentleman in the history of this country… and he’s going to make history again as the first First Gentleman, and I can’t wait for everyone to know why everyone loves him. He’s the glue that holds this family together.
“We may look different than other families in the White House, but we are ready to represent all families in America.”
The two embraced as Emhoff took the stage to give his speech.

Pro-Palestinian protesters burn US flag outside Israeli consulate in Chicago
As Vice President Kamala Harris’ celebratory roll call took place inside Chicago’s United Center on Tuesday, demonstrators burned an American flag on the street outside the nearby Israeli Embassy.
On the second night of the Democratic National Convention, dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters stormed the police line outside the consulate, engaging in a violent standoff with hundreds of officers.
Protesters chanted “Let them go!” as police handcuffed at least four people and led them away from the demonstration. Police armed with wooden sticks reportedly shouted “Go away” and trapped protesters in the street to prevent them from marching Associated Press.
“You are ordered to pay immediately,” an officer said over a megaphone as protesters regrouped and approached a line of riot police in front of the Israeli Consulate in Chicago, the outlet reported.
A woman at the front of the march responded using her own megaphone: “We are not afraid of you.”

Bernie Sanders spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago around 8:30 p.m. local time. The Vermont senator reviewed the early achievements of the Biden-Harris administration amid the multiple crises facing the United States.
“I am honored to be with you tonight as we lay the foundation for Kamala Harris to become the next president of the United States,” he said.
“Think back to where we were three and a half years ago — we were in the midst of the worst public health crisis in a century and the worst economic recession since the Great Depression.
“3,000 Americans are dying every day and our hospitals are filling up with COVID patients. Businesses are closing across the country. Unemployment is skyrocketing… People are being driven out of their homes… Children are going hungry.
