Muscat: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), represented by the Oman Olympic Academy (OOA), organised the first three-day professional workshop “Designing Training Programmes – Periodisation” at Sultan Qaboos University and OOA as part of the National Coaches Certification Programme to develop and enhance the competence of sports coaches in Oman.
The programme is an important step in building a cadre of qualified sports coaches, providing coaches with the opportunity to participate in educational programmes, offering them a valuable opportunity to gain knowledge and experience, develop their skills and will have a positive impact on improving the performance of Omani athletes and enhancing their technical level.
The seminar, which concluded on Tuesday, was chaired by Dr. Shihab al Din bin Ahmed al Riyami, Director of the National Coach Certification Program and certified instructor in international sports training, and was attended by 16 coaches from sports federations and clubs, military sports departments, universities and educational colleges.
The seminar topics covered both theoretical and practical aspects, aiming to provide participants with a wide range of science and research as an important part of the program’s strategy to ensure the provision of high-quality training. The seminars covered many different topics, including the goals, importance and design of sports training programs, the timing of training and its types, the main elements of preparation, and the annual plan and its parts.
The workshop also included training in designing seasonal training programs using the NCCP program and showing visual presentations from participants on the last day of the program to evaluate them and gauge the level of understanding and knowledge of the learners during the workshop, where the working and evaluation mechanisms of the workshop were applied as per international standards and programs.
The NCCP is one of the important national projects and is a summary of sports science that is in sync with the Omani society and national training staff. It combines international training programs and coaches, such as the Canadian, American and British coaching programs. It is also considered one of the pioneering sports projects that will play an important role in establishing a large number of qualified coaches for all sports. It includes the first and second levels as well as some specialized workshops.
