New Delhi (India), August 21 (ANI): A strong call for greater cooperation between India and Africa was made at the 19th Confederation of Indian Industry India-Africa Business Meet held in New Delhi, with brilliant speeches by Vice Presidents Mohammed B. Jallow of Gambia, Jeremiah Kapan Kong of Liberia and CGDN Chiwenge of Zimbabwe.
In his speech, Gambia’s Vice President Mohamed Beth Jallow warmly congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his re-election.
“I want to congratulate Prime Minister Modi for re-election,” Jallow said, acknowledging the importance of stable leadership in advancing India’s partnership with Africa.
Highlighting the daunting challenges facing the global community, including climate change, technological disruption, and the need for inclusive development, Jallow stressed that collaboration and strategic partnerships are key to harnessing our collective strength to address these challenges.
“Our world faces daunting challenges ranging from climate change and technological disruption to inclusive development. Through collaboration, knowledge sharing and strategic partnerships, we can harness our collective strength to address these challenges,” he said. “We envision further exploring several key initiatives and collaborations between The Gambia and India through this conference, deepening and strengthening the existing relationship between India and The Gambia,” he added. He further expressed The Gambia’s commitment to deepening and strengthening the existing relationship between the two countries. Jallow outlined his vision to explore key initiatives and collaborations between The Gambia and India through this conference, highlighting the potential for innovative solutions to drive growth and create lasting impact.
“We can develop innovative solutions that drive growth and have a lasting impact. This will be achieved through economic partnerships, by establishing more trade agreements to promote trade opportunities that are made possible by the lack of investment,” said Jallow. “India has already revolutionized industries from healthcare to finance, creating solutions that are not only efficient but also scalable. The continent is also experiencing a wave of innovation, with young entrepreneurs leading the way in areas such as fintech, agritech and renewable energy,” he added.
Furthermore, he expressed the Gambia’s willingness to engage in collaborative projects aimed at empowering youth and helping young entrepreneurs and innovators gain access to necessary resources.
“Furthermore, India and Gambia’s cooperation in the field of technology focuses on bridging the digital divide and ensuring both countries can harness the power of the digital economy. In addition, we are willing to work together on projects on youth empowerment, focusing on and empowering young entrepreneurs and innovators and helping them access resources,” Jallow said.
In his speech, Liberian Vice President Jeremiah Kapan Kong praised India’s rich history and its significant contributions to global politics, economy and security.
“African countries have made great efforts to improve intra-African trade. I am here to represent India. India has a rich history. India continues to play an important role in world politics, economics and security,” he said. “Today, I am proud of the long-standing diplomatic relations between India and Liberia that have continued for more than six decades. Our two countries have been deeply involved in international trade and business activities over the past few decades,” he added. Zimbabwe’s Vice President CGDN Chiwenge called for cooperation, unity and a common vision for the natural development of the economy at the conference.
He stressed that collective action is needed at this juncture to address key areas that are essential to strengthening India-Africa cooperation.
“This is a moment that requires cooperation, solidarity and a common vision for the natural development of our economies. This meeting will discuss issues such as cooperation and financing models, growth, infrastructure development, agricultural and industrial innovation, utilization of critical minerals, security, development of information and communication technology, healthcare and economic integration,” Chiwenge said. “These are the key areas that require joint focus to enhance India-Africa cooperation for common and sustainable economic development for the benefit of our people,” he added. Chiwenge outlined the key issues that will be addressed in this meeting, including cooperation models such as financing, growth, infrastructure development, agricultural and industrial innovation, utilization of critical minerals, security and development of information and communication technology.
He said: “Zimbabwe is open for business and offers opportunities in areas such as mining, manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, information, communications, technology and infrastructure development. We are more interested in investments that will enhance our agricultural projects and investments, expand economic growth and improve opportunities, and promote technology transfer.” (ANI)
