Zimbabweans protest outside Zimbabwe embassy, demanding Mnangagwa’s resignation
By Diana Machingauta | July 19, 2024 Zimbabweans protest outside the Zimbabwean Embassy in London, demanding the release of jailed Senator Jameson Timba and 78 other opposition members.
The men were detained on June 16 at a private event in Avondale to mark the International Day of the African Child.

Protesters also called for new elections in Zimbabwe. Last year’s elections were condemned by the international community, including the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as being unfree, unfair and not in line with SADC principles and norms.
Furthermore, protesters asked Mnangagwa not to oversee the hearings on the Gukurahundi genocide case as he was the mastermind behind the killing of over 20,000 citizens in Matabeleland and the Midlands.
The protesters’ main demand is for Mnangagwa to step down, saying he is the culprit behind the incidents.
