The Interior Ministry of Yemen’s internationally recognized government has revealed that more than 100 cases of suicide and suicide attempts were recorded in the governorates under its control in the first half of this year.

According to the Ministry of the Interior’s Security Media Center, security authorities monitored a total of 113 suicide crimes and attempted suicides, resulting in 90 deaths and 23 injuries.

The center said there was an increase in suicide cases in the first half of this year compared to last year 2023, with a total of 148 suicide cases recorded throughout the year.

According to the center, Taiz governorate topped the list with 44 suicide cases, followed by Marib governorate with 25, then Aden governorate with 24, and the rest of the cases were spread across other governorates.

Yemen’s Interior Ministry attributed the suicides to psychological and neurological illnesses, family disputes and economic conditions.
