A two-toed sloth believed to be the world’s oldest has died at a German zoo at the age of 54.
In a zoo in Krefeld, not far from Düsseldorf, an animal named Jane died of old age. The sloth was born in the wild in 1969 and lived in Hamburg’s Hagenbeck Zoo until 1986, after which he spent 38 years in Krefeld.
In 2021, Jan was included in the Guinness World Records as the oldest sloth in human care. He is also famous for his fertility: Jan and his females Lolita and Trine have 22 cubs in Krefeld.
Despite his advanced age, Jan managed to become the father of his last child with 22-year-old Trina in March this year.
