“Maria Branyas has left us. She died as she wished: in her sleep, peacefully and without pain,” her family wrote on social media.
Last January, Guinness World Records awarded Maria Branyas Moreira the certificate as the world’s oldest person, after Lucile Randon of France died at the age of 118.
It is understood that the oldest person in the world is Japanese Itooka Tomiko, who was born in May 1908 and turned 116 this spring.
