The World Health Organization has warned that the health crisis in the occupied West Bank is worsening due to attacks and severe restrictions on medical facilities by Israeli occupation forces.
In a press statement, the organization called for the immediate and effective protection of civilians and the health system in the West Bank and regretted the pressure on health institutions due to lack of funding.
In this context, she said: Israel’s withholding of Palestinian tax funds since October 7 has exacerbated a severe financial crisis that has left health workers receiving only half their wages for nearly a year, while 45% of essential medicines are out of stock.
The World Health Organization recorded 480 attacks on medical facilities or ambulances in the occupied West Bank between October 7, 2023 and May 28, 2024, killing 16 people and injuring 95.
Access to health care in the West Bank is also complicated by checkpoint closures, increased insecurity and the closure of entire villages, the group said.
The occupation government withheld more than 6 billion shekels in clearing funds, which are taxes collected monthly by the Israeli Finance Ministry on imported goods, and transferred them to the Palestinian Finance Ministry.
Since Israel began its aggression against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, 546 Palestinians, including 133 children, have been killed in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, and more than 5,200 have been injured.
