(CNS): Government agency Workforce Opportunities and Residence Cayman (WORC) is going through another period of change, which includes abandoning its JobsCayman portal, which posted all job vacancies in Cayman that require a work permit.

In a press release earlier this week, officials said WORC “will enter a transition period” during which it will replace its recruitment portal. On June 3, the customer service department will move from its current location at Apollo Building West on Mary Street in Georgetown to the nearby Artemis Building.

Officials said the JobsCayman portal went offline on Wednesday and its associated services, such as payments, job seeker registration, employer registration, posting job advertisements and applying for jobs, will no longer be available. A temporary website with some online services will go live on June 3 to allow for final development and testing of the new replacement website, WORC Jobs and Online Payment Services, which is expected to go live on June 18.

The Cayman Islands Government has issued new rule The changes, which were outlined on its Gazette page, include the closure of JobsCayman, a portal designed to be a core part of helping Caymanians find jobs that might otherwise only go to license holders, and to give employers more responsibility when they have qualified Caymanians but are not hired.

It can also help those making work permit decisions analyze the language of advertisements targeting specific candidates or existing foreign employees.

The website was set up to address persistent concerns that some employers are deliberately circumventing the rules to recruit and retain foreign workers at the expense of locals.

However, the website was problematic from the outset and difficult to use. Furthermore, the government has never published any studies or data to show whether it has helped create a more transparent and accountable licensing environment, or to what extent it has helped Caymanians find suitable jobs or improved their prospects for advancement.

According to WORC officials, employers can post job advertisements and job seekers can Temporary WORC websitebut payment must be made in person. Customers submitting three or more applications are advised to use a company delivery bag to reduce waiting time. Customer Service staff will be on-site to review the documents and ensure that the delivery is processed as efficiently as possible.

During this transition period, WORC is asking that only those with urgent travel plans request a passport stamp and arrive no later than ten days before travel to help manage the high demand for this service as summer approaches and more people plan to travel. A valid permit may also be used as a travel document.

Those who require customer service, such as making payments, submitting applications and obtaining passport endorsement stamps, can park in the Apollo House West car park and follow signs to Artemis House at 67 Fort Street.

WORC services that remain at Apollo House West include an employment services and training and development department for Caymanians seeking employment or training.

The office phone number remains the same: 945-9672
