The Al-Mualla Police Chief warned all citizens about the dangers of buying and selling through social networking sites and exposing them to exploitation and fraud.

Al-Mualla police in Yemen’s temporary capital of Aden announced the arrest of a woman (HAM) accused of fraudulent activities involving a huge amount of money worth about 44 million riyals for the provision of SIM cards for Aden networks.

Brigadier General Fadl Al-Naqeeb, the head of Al-Mualla Police, confirmed that the accused were arrested for carrying out fraudulent operations against more than 40 male and female citizens and collected a certain amount of money by selling them Aden Net SIM cards. The total amount is 33 million riyals and more than 25 thousand Saudi riyals.

Brigadier General Fadel Al-Naqeeb said: “The accused posted on the Facebook platform claiming that she was in possession of an Aden Net SIM card and that the victim was contacting her asking them to remit an amount equivalent to the SIM card in her name through an exchange shop.”

The captain said that the Al-Mualla police received several reports of fraud in order to investigate the identity of the accused and a plan was developed that led to her arrest, noting that she was investigated and confronted with the evidence that led to the incident. Following her confession, it was confirmed that an investigation report would be filed in the case and the accused would be detained in order to refer her to the prosecution and hand her over to the judiciary in accordance with the law.

Police Commissioner Al-Mualla warned all citizens of the dangers of buying and selling through social media sites and the risk of exploitation and fraud, and called for caution when engaging in such buying and selling.
