I am deeply sorry and regretful that we have found ourselves in the current situation. I think we could have done everything to avoid witnessing the great tragedy of Artsakh. Gevorg Parsyan, Mayor of Kapan, said in an interview with reporters.
“I think any conscious Armenian regrets that such a tragedy happened because actually we don’t have Artsakh today,” the mayor said.
When asked what challenges Kapan faces now, considering that the Azerbaijani flag is already clearly visible, the mayor said that just as Syunik is the back of Artsakh, Artsakh is also the back of Syunik.
“About Artsakh, especially Artsakh-Syunik cooperation and relations, there are centuries of history, these are historical facts. Since Syunik is the backbone of Artsakh, I believe that Artsakh is the backbone of Syunik. Today, with the loss of Artsakh, I believe that the challenges facing Syunik Maz have increased. We witnessed the appearance of the Azerbaijani flag after the well-known events of December 18, 2020, when we abandoned the strategic heights we occupied in self-defense in Kapan, after which the Azerbaijani army appeared near our settlements,” said.
