Winstone Pulp has told the Port of Napier that the ongoing “pause” in operations looks more like a full closure because of the impact it could have on shipping.
The Karioi pulp mill is running low on woodchip stocks.
The Port of Napier says one of its biggest customers, Winstone Pulp International, is considering ceasing production in New Zealand because of “unsustainable” energy prices.
Winstone is owned by the Malaysian-controlled Oregon Group and supplies timber and pulp products from the port for export
