– We recommend wearing masks and being more vigilant about hand hygiene and surface disinfection to prevent the spread of COVID-19, influenza, and RSV – Chief Health Inspector Paweł Grzesiowski said on Tuesday.
COVID-19 is back. Are masks coming back?
He also disclosed that the Ministry of Health held a meeting on: Cases of COVID-19. In addition to the head of GIS, the National Consultant on Infectious Diseases, Prof. Miłosz Parczewski, representatives of the National Institute of Public Health – National Hygiene Institute and the Office of Drug Registration were also present.
–We have confirmation that the wave of cases is increasing. It’s hard to calculate how many people are sick because we no longer do mass testing, but the trend is definitely growing. ——Grzesiovsky pointed out.
The Chief Health Inspector also added that the number of patients being admitted to hospital is increasing. But he stressed that these patients’ illnesses were not as severe as during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Experts warn of new wave of COVID-19
Deputy Health Minister Wojciech Konieczny said on PR24 that the course of COVID-19 this year is different from one or two years agoHe said it was “a little bit disturbing”.
– Disease is accelerated in time (…). The increase in infections we observed in July and August suggests that the peak of the disease will occur earlier, around mid-October. ——he pointed out.
Konieczny said this was evidence that the virus was becoming “less seasonal.” – We’re used to the summer being quieter and the virus being less dangerous. Well, that’s changing. That’s changing because of changes in the virulence of the virus and because of the longer time since the vaccine was given and because fewer people are getting vaccinated. A lot of people who used to resist have failed. Resistance ——he pointed out.
He noted that it was too early to talk about introducing restrictions. However, he stressed that if anyone feels unwell, they should self-isolate and wear a mask..- Let’s not be ashamed of wearing masks ——He appealed.
Will COVID-19 return? Test and mask prices are rising
Business Insider decided to check whether sellers had noticed the trend and increased prices on masks and tests. For this purpose, a tool from the Skąpiec.pl website was used, which shows the price history of a single product for the past six months.
Analysis shows that it is currently more expensive, but has only risen slightly. At this point, we are not facing a significant increase in the price of masks and tests.
For example, two FFP2 masks cost 5.90 zlotys. At the beginning of August, the price fell by 31 grozy to 5.59 zlotys. In July, the price was also 5.90 zlotys.
The most popular surgical masks are now more expensive than in May, but cheaper than at the start of the holiday season. The average price for a pack of 50 pieces is about 9 zlotys. In June and July the price may exceed 10 PLN. In the first few days you can pay less than 7 PLN for the same product.
The increase can be seen in testing. The most popular are tests that detect both coronavirus infection and influenza or RSV. Currently, the price is about 10 PLN, depending on the store. The Skąpiec comparator shows that a year ago the price per item was 7.5 zlotys.
