WHO declares monkeypox outbreak a global emergency

The World Health Organization has declared the ongoing monkeypox (Mpox) outbreak in Africa a global health emergency.

A new deadly strain of the virus has spread to four African provinces previously unaffected by the virus. A new outbreak has sickened more than 14,000 people and killed more than 500 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has spread from Congo to more than a dozen countries in East and Central Africa.

There was also an epidemic of this viral disease in 2022-2023. This year’s outbreak was caused by the spread of a more dangerous strain.

Mpox, also known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that spreads easily between humans and infected animals. According to the World Health Organization, the virus can be spread through close contact, touching, kissing or sexual intercourse. The virus can also be spread from one person to another through bed sheets, clothing and needles. Symptoms of the monkey virus include fever, painful rash, headache, muscle and back pain, lack of energy, easy fatigue and swollen lymph nodes.
