Sean Whyte kicked a 42-yard field goal in the final seconds to help the BC Lions rally from behind to beat the Edmonton Elks 24-21 in a see-saw CFL battle on Thursday night.
White also made field goals from 29 and 24 yards, extending his field goal streak to 27 attempts.
With just over a minute left, Edmonton tied the game at 21-21 on a 52-yard field goal by Boris Beede.
Fullback David McGee scored on a one-yard run late in the fourth quarter to make up for an earlier fumble and give the Lions a 19-18 lead. A pass interference call by Edmonton at the Elks’ five-yard line helped the Lions get going.
Justin McInnis caught the ball with his fingertips and scored two points, tying the score to 21-18.
The win improved the Lions’ record to 3-1. The Elks’ loss in Toronto came just five days after dropping their record to 0-4.
Adams completed 27 of 38 passes for 330 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, and showed no aftereffects from Tuesday’s abdominal injury that sidelined him from practice.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Lions looked ready to take the lead as they drove the ball to the Edmonton 10-yard line. McGee tried to gain some extra yards on third down but fumbled. Former Lion Loucheiz Purifoy recovered the ball.

The Elks took the lead on a four-man drive of their own and were able to take advantage on the ensuing possession thanks to two roughing fouls by BC.
Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson led the Elks on nine plays for 106 yards, capped by a 7-yard run. Backup quarterback Dakota Prukop scored on a 1-yard run to give Edmonton an 18-13 lead with seven minutes left.
Bethel-Thompson’s two-point conversion attempt was intercepted in the end zone by cornerback Gary Peters.
Running back William Stanback also scored for BC on a 5-yard pass, his first touchdown since joining the Lions as a free agent.
Sophomore receiver Ayden Eberhart had six catches for 78 yards.
BC linebacker Patrice Rene was outstanding, finishing off a great night with a knockout, stunning sack.
The Lions have gone three straight games without allowing a sack.
Bethel Thompson completed 19 of 30 passes for 247 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Slot back Kurleigh Gittens Jr. caught a 21-yard touchdown pass for the Elks.
Bede also kicked a 39-yard field goal. Punter Jake Julien kicked 64 and 55 yards.
The third quarter started with a nice drive by Edmonton, but ended with Lions cornerback Ciante Evans intercepting Bethel-Thompson at the BC 13-yard line, making the score 0-0.
With 10 seconds left in the game, White kicked a 29-yard field goal to give the Lions a 13-12 lead at halftime. Edmonton’s penalty kick gave the Lions the lead.
Boston College scored its first touchdown midway through the second quarter. Adams set up the offense with a 35-yard throw to Alexander Hollins, which Aiden Eberhart caught for 16 yards. Stanback’s touchdown gave the Lions a 10-4 lead.
The Elks answered with a 46-yard touchdown reception by wide receiver Dillon Mitchell, and Bethel Thompson found Gittens in the end zone to give Edmonton a one-point lead.
The Elks led 4-3 in the first quarter after the two teams traded goals and Bader kicked a field goal.
Before Edmonton’s field goal, the Lions attempted a 47-yard field goal but the shot was too high. The Elks recovered the ball at the 55-yard line.

BC: The Lions will play one home game in the next eight weeks, playing in Hamilton on July 7.
