WhatsApp is working on a feature where users can translate conversations and texts within the app itself with the help of Google Translate integration which will run locally and maintain data privacy.
The platform plans to roll out new options designed to improve accessibility and ease of use while protecting the privacy of information shared through it.
One of the latest features that is already in the implementation stage is allowing voice notes to be automatically transcribed into text in up to five languages, as spotted by WABetaInfo in the latest Android beta.
The portal has now warned that users of the operating system will receive a new feature in WhatsApp update 2.24.15.8, which will be made available to testers through the Google Play Beta program.
This feature allows you to translate messages directly in the application without having to copy and paste the text to be translated into another application or web page for this purpose.
WABetaInfo said the feature is based on Google Translate’s real-time translation technology, which when integrated into the app will maintain the privacy of user messages. This is because it will work locally, i.e. without sending data to external servers.
Users will need to download a language pack in the future to enable this feature, ensuring they can always access translations in the language of their choice. Currently, it is limited to certain languages, such as Hindi or English, although the app is expected to be updated to accommodate more languages.
