Meta will allow you to block messages sent by unknown accounts on WhatsApp, a protection measure against spam and scams that is currently under study and will be available to users in an upcoming service update.

To improve user protection, the technology company has introduced different privacy tools, such as blocking contacts or temporary chats. Advanced options allow you to disable previews of shared links in conversations and protect IP addresses in calls.

Now, Meta is developing another advanced privacy tool that, if activated, will block messages sent by unknown accounts, as shared by the specialized portal WABetainfo, although the description of the function explicitly states that it will work “if the messages exceed a certain number.”

In addition to improving user protection, the new feature is designed to improve the performance of the app itself by reducing the appearance of spam, scams, and other unwanted messages.

This is a feature that is currently being tested and has appeared in the Android beta version (v2.24.17.24) and will be available to users in an upcoming update of the Messages app.
