Honourable Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele MP and his delegation arrived in Fujian Province, Republic of China on the morning of the 9th.day July 2024.
Prime Minister Manele received a red carpet welcome from the Fujian Provincial Government and immediately began a series of activities.
The highlight of the meeting was the formal signing of a friendly province relations agreement between Fujian Province and Western Province that evening.
Representatives signing the formal agreement on sister city relations included the Governor of Fujian Province and Deputy Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China Zhao Long, and representatives of the Solomon Islands Government and Western Province Government, Minister of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening Wayne Gemu.
The Solomon Islands delegation and Fujian Provincial Government leaders and officials jointly witnessed this historic signing.
In a bilateral conversation with Zhou Zuyi, Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee, Philippine Prime Minister Manele said that establishing friendly city relations was one of the important outcomes of this visit.
“…I firmly believe that local relations contribute to and strengthen Solomon Islands’ strategic and overall relationship with China,” the Prime Minister stressed.

Prime Minister Manele further added that Western Province is keen to explore the relationship as the current Governor of the province is pushing for the formalisation of the relationship.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to David Gina, former Premier of Western Province, who initiated this provincial relationship and is now a Member of Parliament and who accompanied the Prime Minister on this trip.
Pointing out the similarities between Fujian and western provinces, the premier said both were famous for their marine and fishery resources as well as tourism.
“I hope that the two provinces can exchange information and experience in the field of fisheries for mutual benefit,” said Prime Minister Manele.
The Prime Minister also invited more investors from Fujian Province to invest in the Solomon Islands under this local framework.
Prime Minister Manele reiterated that the national government will support mutually beneficial cooperation between the two provinces.
The Prime Minister’s schedule today, 10day In July 2024, he visited the China National Juncao Technology Engineering Research Center, the China Pacific Island Countries Poverty Reduction and Development Cooperation Center, and the China-Pacific Island Countries Police Training Center.
