Tens of thousands of residents will be without planned water supply from June 25. Work is ongoing near the village of Tsitsamuri. According to the water supply company, the central pipeline is severely damaged and it will take another five days to eliminate the problem.
Giga Nadiradze, GWP’s director of asset management, said engineers had reached the damaged pipeline while work to clear buried plots continued.
The main pipeline of “Georgia Hydro” was damaged. Tens of thousands of tons of soil have been removed and processed.
As of now, we have started laying the pipeline, which means that the excess soil in the pipeline has been removed. The damaged section will be replaced with a new one. We also plan to inspect the damaged section on the left and right sides of the pipeline from the inside and make a scanner using special equipment to determine if there are any problems with the individual seams of the pipeline. ” said Giga Nadiradze.
As for the progress of the investigation, Nadiraze did not disclose details.
The investigation started in two directions – one concerned the damage done to our assets. The other was direct damage to the environment.
This was an unforeseen event and therefore, until the investigation is complete, it is not possible to comment or say whether we could have predicted and prevented this type of event in advance.”
The Ministry of the Interior recently launched an investigation into the water main damage incident.
Parts of Tbilisi remain without water after the water supply near the village of Tsitsamuri was damaged on June 16.
GWP initially claimed that third parties had been dumping soil on the pipeline for years, starting in 2017.
