The Kano State Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, has reacted to the directive of Governor Aba Yusuf to expel the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
Recall that Yusuf, through the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dedri, on Thursday night, directed the Communist Party to evict the deposed 15th Emir of Kano from the small palace in Nasarawa.
However, Gumel said in a chat with Punch Magazine on Friday that complying with Governor Yusuf’s eviction order would amount to acting too hastily.
According to Gumel, the government that issued the order has filed a lawsuit in the state High Court against the eviction order, which will be heard on Monday, June 24, 2024.
His words: “The police will not evict the deposed emir as the same government has filed a case in the state high court over the eviction order, which will be implemented from Monday, June 24, 2024.

“The government is rushing things because the same government has filed a lawsuit against the deportation order, which is set to take effect on June 24, 2024. So if we enforce the order, it would be like we are preempting it because we don’t know what will happen in the court.”
While the police are yet to implement Yusuf’s directive, a supporter of Bayero in an interview with the platform confirmed that the deposed emir is still at the small palace receiving traditional greetings from some traditional rulers loyal to him.
The supporter also denied reports that bulldozers had been stationed in front of the palace to demolish it.
The source said, “I tell you that Emir Aminu Addo Bayero still resides in the small palace and as I speak to you, he is receiving the ‘traditional greetings’ from those loyal to him.
“I heard rumors in some quarters that a bulldozer had been parked in front of the Nasarawa Palace before the demolition. This was propaganda on social media.”
