The European Union is considering suspending economic aid to Georgia after the Russian law comes into effect. EU Foreign Ministry spokesman Peter Stano announced the news in an interview with the Spanish publication El Europa.
Stano once again expressed concern about recent developments in Georgia, noting that the entry into force of the Russian law was a setback for the country’s European integration process.
The senior official also said the EU had reduced political engagement with Georgian officials – “except those who are focused on finding a way out of the current situation”.
“We are considering the possibility of suspending financial aid to the (Georgian) government,” Stano said, noting that the EU has already frozen 30 million euros in military aid within the framework of the European Peace Mechanism.
