The United States has admitted to attacking the Ain al-Asad base with two drones.

A U.S. military official said, “The U.S. Ain al-Assad base in Anbar province was attacked by two drones.”

He added that “no one was injured at the base,” noting that “preliminary data indicates that U.S. and coalition forces successfully intercepted two drones at an Iraqi air base.”

The official continued: “This is an evolving situation and U.S. Central Command will provide further updates.”

“Two explosive drones attacked the Ain al-Asad airbase in Anbar province in western Iraq, but did not cause damage to the base,” a coalition source said.

It was the first attack on U.S. troops in Iraq in months since a drone strike in Jordan killed three U.S. soldiers last February. In response, the U.S. conducted airstrikes on locations in Iraq and Syria.
