That is why domestic brewers generally look down on Czech-branded beers produced under license abroad, as well as beers produced using other water sources. Vinohradský pivovar, one of the most famous Czech microbreweries, recently moved most of its production from the Prague district to Karanj in central Bohemia, more than 30 km from the parent company.
He is now brewing his “flagship” unfiltered beer there, which accounts for more than 75% of total production. Yet no one complains about the customers. The new 150-million-kronor brewery is located directly opposite a large water treatment plant. It supplies not only Kárán’s products but also about a quarter of Prague, including Vinohrady, which initially brews 11 varieties.
