More than three months after the destruction of the Petro-Attiti vocational high school, the last students are returning to the classroom. This Tuesday morning in Rivière-salée, second-grade CAP students returned to Mauricette-Devambez Elementary School.

The Mauricette-Devambez school in the Rivière-Salée district will welcome the last cohort of students from the Petro-Attiti vocational high school from this Tuesday until the end of the year. Around 100 young people have no place to attend face-to-face classes after the school facilities were destroyed during the riots in May 2024.

Mauricette Devambez Primary School is the sixth and final school Welcome to Petro-Attiti’s high school students. Some students have not seen their teachers since mid-May.

Despite the good news, some young people in the 780 students who will start high school in 2024 are not yet able to return to the classroom due to a lack of boarding schools and public transport.

Isabelle Champmoreau, the government vice-president in charge of education, reminded this Tuesday that the Petro-Attiti vocational high school plans to partially reopen in the coming years. A priority is the transformation of the workshops. Necessary for students in a department that learns mainly through practical work.
