Victory Day 2021: The nation will always be grateful to the soldiers for their ultimate sacrifice

New Delhi: On the occasion of the 50th Victory Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (December 16) signed the visitor’s book at the National War Memorial and wrote that Indian citizens are proud of the brave soldiers who have written stories of unmatched bravery.

The Prime Minister participated in the tribute and reception ceremony of the ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaals’ and laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in Delhi. “On behalf of the entire nation, I pay tribute to the warriors of the 1971 war. Citizens are proud of the brave soldiers who wrote a story of unmatched bravery,” he wrote in the guestbook. “The nation remembers the sacrifices of the soldiers who died in this war. The nation will always be grateful for the supreme sacrifice of the soldiers. Their loyalty, sacrifice and devotion will continue to inspire future generations,” he added.

V-Day commemorates India’s victory in the 1971 war and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s creation. Prime Minister Modi was received by Rajnath Singh at the National War Memorial. On December 16, 2021, on the occasion of V-Day, Singh joined the nation in remembering the courage, bravery and sacrifices of the Indian armed forces in the 1971 war. In a series of tweets, Singh called the 1971 war a golden chapter in India’s military history.

On December 16 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lit the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal at the Eternal Flame at the National War Memorial. He also lit four flames that will travel in different directions. Since then, the four flames have traveled across the country, including to the Siachen Glacier, Kanyakumari, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Longewala, Swamps of Kutch, Agartala. The flames were taken to key battlefields and also to the homes of gallantry medal recipients and veterans of the 1971 war. Today, during a tribute ceremony, the Prime Minister will merge the four flames with the Eternal Flame at the National War Memorial.

Meanwhile, President Ram Nath Kovind witnessed Bangladesh’s 50th Victory Day celebrations in Dhaka as the guest of honour today.
