The Supreme Court of Venezuela (TSJ), the country’s highest court, announced on Thursday (22) that it recognized the victory of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in the national elections held on July 28.
The ruling also banned the release of election records and accused opposition candidate Edmundo González of flouting justice and therefore “being sanctioned.”
With this ruling, the court, considered an arm of the Chavista judiciary, endorsed 25 days later the election results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which amounts to the country’s electoral justice system and is also directed by an independent electoral council that is affiliated with Maduro’s allies.
