Myriam Lucas created a number of pieces, including a pāreu in the colours of the Olympic rings, and she was very pleased with the results. “These kiosks opened the old fashioned way take us back in time. Presquelle is missing that!” The same vibe is facing her neighbour Hereiti and her mother Moeata, who are in the midst of a career change, juggling jewellery, hand-painted pāreu and crocheted bags. “It’s fantastic to be able to showcase our creations at the Olympics! It’s really an opportunity to contribute to the promotion of our town”they told us. On the other side of the pier, in Plaza Tavanha, Fabiola Hauata represented six artisans as president of the Taure’a no Vavi association. “It’s mainly young people who are engaged in sewing, knitting, jewellery and so on. This is a good initiative that will allow us to showcase our expertise and make sales.”

Three unu with images of Teahupo’o, Vairao and Toahotu, carved by students from the Vairao Youth Center (CJA), were unveiled on the occasion. A fitness trail and beach volleyball court will soon be completed. The next step for the artisans is to be held on Friday, July 19, with the support ofhighwaythe floating Olympic Village in Tapuelaha Bay.
