According to VOA’s Armenian service, the U.S. State Department answered questions about the U.S. military exercises with Armenia, Azerbaijan’s response to them, and possible changes in U.S. policy toward Armenia after the U.S. presidential election in November.
In response to questions about Azerbaijan’s statement on the Armenian-US military exercises, the US State Department stressed that the United States has a long-standing partnership with Armenia, one example of which is the ongoing cooperation with the Kansas National Guard under the US Department of Defense’s State Partnership Program.
The United States and Azerbaijan have a unique defense and security relationship that includes the recent Agile Spirit exercise in Georgia, multinational exercises such as NATO’s Partnership for Peace, and many other bilateral forms of cooperation such as the U.S. Department of Defense’s State Partnership Program.
The U.S. State Department noted that Armenia and Azerbaijan continue to make significant progress toward a peace agreement, and the United States is determined to support this process. The time for peace has come.
In response to questions about how U.S. foreign policy will change after a possible change of government in November, the U.S. State Department said that U.S. foreign policy is non-partisan.
The U.S. government’s foreign policy may change under different presidential terms. The U.S. State Department said in a statement, but the basic principles of U.S. foreign policy remain unchanged, including promoting security, democracy, prosperity and development in the United States and around the world.
