Lazzarini added: "Most refugees have lived in camps for generations, often with limited rights and in extreme poverty, awaiting a political solution to end their plight. Today, they are witnessing the greatest Palestinian tragedy since the Nakba. As they have for 75 years, they look to UNRWA to protect and fulfil fundamental human rights.".
He explained that the UN agency provided more than 72% of medical services to 12 health facilities in the Gaza Strip before the war, half of which have stopped working, calling for support for the agency’s role in responding to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
He stressed that “without intervention to revive the educational process in Gaza, we will condemn an entire generation to poverty,” and reiterated that “UNRWA exists because of the lack of a political solution to the Palestinian issue.”
