University of the West Indies welcomes President Miller

Dr. Dodridge Miller, the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West Indies

University of the West Indies Regional Headquarters, Jamaica, Wisconsin, Wednesday, July 31, 2024— On August 1, the University of the West Indies (UWI) welcomed Dr. Dodridge Miller as its new president, the seventh president of the university.^day Holder of the highest post in the regional university system.

The university council appointed President Miller at its annual business meeting earlier this year. According to the university constitution and regulations, “the Vice-Chancellor shall preside over meetings of the Council (the highest governing body of the regional university) and any meetings and shall have all the powers and perform the duties conferred on the holder of the office of Vice-Chancellor by the constitution of the University of the West Indies or any constitution, bylaws or regulations.”

A distinguished graduate of the University of the West Indies, President Miller brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He is considered a true Caribbean standout with over 30 years of leadership experience in banking, insurance and financial services, including a successful tenure as Group President and CEO of Sagicor Financial Company until his retirement in March 2023.

In a statement to the university community, Vice-Chancellor Miller said: “I am keen to engage with our donor governments and university leadership to hear how they wish to deepen our working relationship. Their support is vital to the University of the West Indies’ continued role as a partner in the region’s development agenda.”
