University of the West Indies commends Dr Deirdre Charles for her outstanding contribution to youth development

St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. May 23, 2024 – The University of the West Indies (UWI) St Augustine joins the national community in celebrating the achievements of Dr Deirdre Charles. As Director of Student Services and Development, Dr Charles has been awarded an honourable mention by the Department of Youth Development and National Service’s 2024 Mentoring Programme.

This honor is in recognition of her outstanding dedication to our nation’s youth, as reflected in her mentoring, coaching and advisory roles. Her deep commitment to youth development has had a positive impact on the lives of many young people, providing them with invaluable support and guidance during critical stages of their growth. Indeed, Dr. Charles goes out of her way to guide young people in the right direction with the utmost professionalism and kindness. As the Director of Student Services and Development, faculty, staff and students alike bear witness to the passionate dedication, hard work and pride Dr. Charles takes in carrying out her daily responsibilities.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Charles said:

“I am honored to receive this recognition…I am committed to continuing to serve the University of the West Indies and Trinidad and Tobago with grace, excellence and dedication. The optimism and encouragement they have shown inspire me to strive for greater achievements in the future.”
