The new Unity State Police Commissioner, Gatkuoth Duop, has announced the recruitment of 1,000 new police officers.
Douop, who was speaking during the governor’s visit to the internally displaced persons camp in Bentiu, said the camp residents would be taken into consideration.
He said the increased police presence was needed to ensure security and protect civilians.
The police chief said the recruitment exercise will be conducted in IDP camps as well as in Panyjijiar, Guit, Rubkona, Koch, Mayom, Leer and Mayendit districts. He said at least 100 places have been allocated in each district and 200 places in IDP camps.
He disclosed that the training of the new recruits will start in the state capital in the next three days.
