Union FNV said the announcement by GP chain Co-Med to file for bankruptcy was “not good news”. But FNV director Mitchell Hoogenhout said the news “does provide some certainty for approximately 175 employees”.
“This is predictable,” Hugenhout said, noting that Co-Med employees had received an email from their employer on Wednesday saying that salaries would not be paid this month because the insurance company had turned off the funding tap.
Hoogenhout said the UWV welfare agency could take over salary payments if a company is declared insolvent. “Of course, hearing that an employer is insolvent is not good news, but it does give employees some certainty.”
Filing for bankruptcy yourself
GP chain Co-Med will file for bankruptcy next week, its lawyers confirmed on Sunday, following a report by L1. Co-Med has been in trouble for some time. Health insurers recently cancelled their contracts with the chain, partly because GPs were unable to provide adequate services to patients.
Thousands of Brabanders are without a GP since Co-Med closed its doors.
