UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell will make her first official visit to Fiji tomorrow.

The visit is significant as it is the first time in a decade that a UNICEF Executive Director has visited Pacific island nations such as Australia and New Zealand.

Her visit reaffirms UNICEF’s strong commitment to the Pacific region, the Australian and New Zealand governments, and supports the Blue Pacific Continent 2050 Strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The visit provided an opportunity to further strengthen existing partnerships between UNICEF and the Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand.

During his visit to Fiji, Russell will call on Fiji’s Acting Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Manoa Kamika.

A highlight of the visit was a discussion with Fijian youth.

The discussions will create initiatives for UNICEF and the Government of Fiji to strengthen collaboration and work together to advance the rights of children in Fiji and the Pacific region.

UNICEF Pacific Fiji works closely with the Government of Fiji to provide technical assistance and specialized programmes at national and community levels.
