Last week, a young woman from Suriname reported to the Albina police that she had been abused by her uncle NR for a year.
The man asked her to manage his home in Cayenne, French Guiana, while he often stayed in Suriname. The woman agreed and moved into NR’s home.
NR would go to his house two or three times a month and drink with the woman. The woman was unaware that she had been drugged and unconscious, and NR then abused her. This happened several times until the woman realized what was going on.
NR once proposed to her but she refused due to family ties. This angered NR and he threatened her with a knife and said that if she did not marry him, he would post her video on social media.
The woman told her grandmother about the incident, who advised her to move and report the incident to the Surinamese police.
On August 20, 2024, NR was arrested by the Albina police on this basis and brought before the Assistant Public Prosecutor. After consultation with the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service, he was detained.
The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
