UMNO abandons Najib – Malaysia Today

I had thought for a while that UMNO could have legally raised issues to help this man. One of them was the denial of legal representation at the final stage of the appeal. This is the most basic human right, but he was denied it, and UMNO did nothing about it.

Second, the King had issued a pardon or a reprieve order to keep Najib at home. The reprieve order is legal and should be followed and executed, but Najib did not do so because the Mamdani government did not know who put the addendum where.

In short, they want nothing to do with Najib. Again, UMNO said they did nothing. Not only that, they were involved in many things.

Today, Najib is trying to get the charges brought against him by IPIC six years ago dismissed. The prosecution is not ready and they are now trying to reclassify certain documents six years later. Can you believe it?

Six years on, the case is still not ready. Despite this, no one thinks Najib has been treated unfairly. Not even UMNO thinks so.

(If the IPIC deal was accepted, IPIC would return the $7.5 billion they claim Najib embezzled. But they deny the deal. If they received money from IPIC, then the case against Najib is meaningless)

To Umno members, I say your unwillingness to stand up for your leaders on the most basic issues of justice is disgusting. The Minister of Reform is led by an Umno leader. Does she have anything to say?

In Scotland, the law requires prosecutors to withdraw a case if they are unable to proceed with it after three years. This is to ensure that the justice system does not oppress anyone and that the judicial process is transparent.

In Malaysia, justice is discretionary. But the problem with unfettered discretion is that it makes us live in the world of Animal Farm, where discretion serves the interests/help of some but not others.

Most cases are withdrawn for reasons that baffle most people. No one may question the exercise of discretion without facing the consequences of contempt of court or jail time.

Perhaps this is why UMNO members are so afraid to defend Najib as he still cannot withdraw his case six years after being charged

I will talk to some Islamist sympathizers tomorrow; perhaps they have a stronger sense of justice.
