Ukraine attacked the Russian capital of Moscow with 11 drones on Wednesday, and Russia said its air defenses destroyed all of them.
The Russian government acknowledged that the attack was one of the largest attacks launched by Ukrainian forces against Moscow since the outbreak of the Ukrainian war in February 2022.
The war between Russia and Ukraine, which has been using artillery, drones and air strikes on villages and forests in eastern Ukraine, took a new turn on August 6 when Ukraine sent troops to Russia’s eastern Kursk region on the Ukrainian border.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense forces shot down about 45 drones, including 11 in Moscow, 23 in the Bryansk border region, 6 in the Belgorod region, and 5 in the Kaluga and Kursk regions.
On the other hand, Russia is making gains in eastern Ukraine, with its troops now controlling around 18% of the region.
The attack was Russia’s first since World War II.
