On 1 August 2024, His Excellency Blaise Clotaire Olgie Nguema, the Transitional President of the Republic of Gabon, and Ms. Zita Olgie Nguema, the First Lady of Gabon, visited the Fine Spinners Uganda Limited factory located on Spring Road, Kiswa area, Buglobee, Kampala.
His Excellency Nguema and the First Lady were received at the factory by Mr. Jaswinder Bedi, Chairman of the Textile Company, and his son, Mr. Sav Bedi, the CEO of the factory. They were given a guided tour of the production line and learned about the production process from spinning, weaving and knitting to the final products such as T-shirts, various children’s and women’s clothing, men’s clothing and uniforms for each entity.
Fine Spinners Uganda Limited is a manufacturer of sustainable, traceable cotton textiles and apparel made from high-quality Ugandan cotton.
President Nguema expressed appreciation and gratitude to His Excellency Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda, for the success of the raw material value addition exercise he championed.

He expressed his hope to work with the Ugandan government to promote value-added initiatives for the benefit of the people of the two sisterly countries.
“I am very impressed with what we have seen in this factory. It is indeed very impressive to transform the product from its initial form to what it is now. I am very happy and I hope to establish a partnership with the Ugandan government to add value to our products,” he said at the end of the factory tour.
According to the factory’s CEO Saf Bedi, the Bugrobbi factory employs more than 1,500 Ugandan workers, who are mainly trained on the job, and most of their products are exported to countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Gabon has a population of over 2.4 million and its economy is mainly based on agriculture, forestry, mining, oil and tourism.
This afternoon, President Nguema, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Zita Nguema, visited the Luwero Industrial Park again.
They were received by the Managing Director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), Lieutenant General James Mugira and the Managing Director of Luwero Industries, Major General Sabiti Muzeyi.
The guests visited Pro-Heli International Services Ltd., a company engaged in helicopter repair, maintenance, overhaul and upgrade.
President Nguema was then taken to the armored vehicle manufacturing plant and toured the armored vehicles and ships.

Upon arrival in Uganda, His Excellency President Nguema delivered a speech at Pro-Heli International Services Limited where he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Museveni and the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, the Government and people of Uganda for the warm welcome extended to him, the First Lady and other members of the delegation.
President Nguema exchanged views with his host, President Yoweri Museveni, on a wide range of issues of mutual interest to Gabon and Uganda and described the visit as fruitful.
However, he reiterated his call for deepening close cooperation and collaboration between the two countries in health, agriculture, military and many other areas.
Lieutenant General Mujira told the guests that the company is the commercial and business arm of the Ministry of Defence. He said the company’s goal is to promote self-reliance and build local capacity to exploit natural resources for the strategic security of the black people.
“For the strategic security of the black race and the spirit of Pan-Africanist brotherhood and sisterhood, it is necessary to explore the rich opportunities for cooperation and collaboration in the field of defence, including supporting the growth and development of each other’s defence industries,” he stressed.
Lieutenant General Mujira, therefore, strongly advocated ending the syndrome of defence dependency on the outside world and instead strengthening local capabilities by manufacturing defence equipment within African countries to guarantee their sovereignty and true independence.
Major General Sabiti briefed the guests on the activities and operations of the industry, which covers not only the military but also the civilian sector.
President Nguema was accompanied by Ugandan government officials and delegation members, including Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Jacob Oboth-Obot and Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Judith Nabakooba.
After the visit, President Nguema led a delegation to Gabon. At the Entebbe International Airport, the Ugandan Vice President, Her Excellency Jessica Alupo, Foreign Minister General Jeje Odongo, His Excellency Jacob Oboth, His Excellency Judith Nabakuba, Deputy Commander of the National Defence Force, Lieutenant General Sam Okiting, and Uganda’s Special Envoy to Gabon, Ambassador Matata Twaha, saw the President off.
