ANTARA, GIANYA, Bali – Culinary enthusiasts as well as domestic and foreign tourists flocked to the 2024 Ubud Food Festival (UFF), where local and global culinary celebrities made an appearance to showcase their expertise.

This year’s UFF theme is “Take to the Streets”, exploring the flavours of Indonesian street food, where every bite embodies rich tradition, innovation and the sheer joy of good food.

At the festival, food lovers can choose from a wide variety of Indonesian street food and have the opportunity to meet some of Asia’s best culinary masters.

Ubud Food Festival 2024 provides a space for domestic and international business owners and culinary brands to promote their products to culinary enthusiasts and tourists.

The event brought together local and global culinary brands with top chefs, restaurateurs, academics and culinary entrepreneurs to create a rich and varied culinary collaboration.

UFF founder and director Janet DeNeefe said she was pleased to invite local and foreign visitors to experience the rich and varied Indonesian cuisine, from traditional to new and exciting culinary creations.

Visitors can try Indonesian meatballs, Indonesian pancakes “martabak” which are a feast for the taste buds, legendary grilled chicken, and vegetarian snacks that can be enjoyed without guilt. The event is designed to ensure that people eat to their heart’s content and full stomachs.

Food For Thought is an engaging discussion session that seeks to explore insights and become a platform for producers and consumers to share their stories, build connections and achieve a vibrant and sustainable culinary industry. This is in line with UFF’s goal of celebrating Indonesia’s street food and gastronomic richness.

Indonesian cuisine has gained attention for its many foods that are prepared with rich spices and have become a symbol of cultural philosophy.

The festival, now in its sixth year, opened with a press conference and food stalls on May 31, 2024. The festival, which will run until June 2, 2024, has hosted various shows showcasing emerging and outstanding culinary talents from Indonesia as well as Asia’s best chefs and Michelin star award winners.

This year, the festival opened its doors as much as possible, offering free admission. The festival officially opened on Thursday, May 29, 2024 at Titik Dua, Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, with an exhibition of mural works in collaboration with this year’s festival committee.

This food festival provides a platform for local catering practitioners to showcase themselves, and tourists can taste a variety of authentic local specialties here.

UFF 2024 is an opportunity to introduce and celebrate Indonesia’s rich culinary arts. A blend of culinary tourism, education and community empowerment, UFF 2024 is a must-do event in Bali.

A food paradise and entertainment venue

A highlight of this year’s festival is the unique fermented dishes and drinks of Indonesia. Visitors can taste various fermented drinks, such as Balinese wine, and learn about their history and manufacturing process.

At least 70 culinary stalls showcased authentic flavours from different regions of Nusantara: sour fish soup, Raja Ampat’s special crab, drinks made from fermented coffee fruit and Balinese lily satay. Global dishes from Vietnam and Mexico were also on display, as were alcoholic beverages, tea and coffee brands.

The Balinese Keroncong music and Kecak dance added to the activity. Keroncong is one of the musical genres that emerged from the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. This genre includes string, woodwind or flute and vocal instruments.

The Kecak dance is a combination of drama and dance. Male dancers sit in a circle and shout “Kecak” loudly with their arms raised. The sound of “Kecak” becomes the background music of the performance.

The festival is not only a paradise for food lovers, but also a comprehensive exploration of global cuisines. Visitors can participate in cooking workshops, watch live cooking demonstrations by famous chefs, or take a food tour to explore the authentic flavors of the archipelago.

UFF was launched in 2015 by the Mudra Swari Saraswati Foundation to showcase Indonesia’s rich culinary traditions on the global stage.

The festival aims to celebrate the diversity of food and invites young Indonesians to improve their skills through cooking masterclasses and cooking demonstrations. There, they have broad networking opportunities. In this program, festival organizers also hold important discussions on global issues such as the environment, sustainability and food systems.

Bali legend Ni Wayan Murni has been nominated as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024. Established in 1974, Warung Ni Wayan Murni has become a top destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

During the festival, sustainability advocates can engage in discussions on sustainability, coffee lovers can attend workshops on coffee, and food lovers can enjoy mouth-watering cooking demonstrations and authentic cuisine.
