UEFA announces 2024-2025 Champions League draw results

Defending champions Real Madrid will play away against Liverpool in the league stage of the new Champions League draw and host Borussia Dortmund in a repeat of last season’s final.

In Monte Carlo, France, the revamped 36-team tournament pitted Manchester City against Inter Milan, with City eventually defeating Inter to lift the 2023 trophy.

Under the new competition system, all teams form a league, and each participating team plays four home games and four away games.

Each club is seeded into one of four pots. Each team will then play two teams from each pot, one at home and one away.

To ensure fairness and diversity, UEFA’s software determines each team’s opponents and whether they are playing at home or away.

The software prevents teams from the same country from playing against each other, allowing for more diverse matches. In addition, no team can play against more than two clubs from the same country.

The top eight teams will automatically advance to the round of 16, while clubs ranked 9th to 24th will compete in a two-legged knockout round for a chance to advance.

But teams ranked 25th or below will be eliminated and will not participate in the Europa League.

The UEFA Champions League will continue to use the existing format starting from the round of 16, with the final to be held at a neutral venue. This season’s final will be held in Munich, Germany.
